I am so excited about this collection of shadows. It contains so many wearable shades. My favorites are Radium (bright blue)and Psychedelic Sister (dark purple). The greens are also very cool. The neutral colors that are included are perfect for daytime/work looks. This set did contain four colors I already own but the other colors were so great that I didn't think twice about buying it.
I like that the shadow boxes come with eyeliner pencils but I wish they would quit including Zero(black) with every set. I have around five Zero pencils and I rarely use black eyeliner! When I do use black eyeliner I actually use the Perversion shadow because it is great for doing a smokey eye. The Ransom (Purple) eyeliner is amazing. I already had that color but I use it almost daily so I was glad to get another one.
The Primer Potion does keep the shadow from falling off, but it also makes it go on darker so I never use it. It seems to amp up whatever color you put on top of it and you can't really start out light and build up the color. Without the primer the eyeshadow lasts for most of the day without fading. Also, the bottle the primer comes in is a pain. You can't get all the product out of it and you end up wasting a lot of it. I don't know why they don't just put it in a squeeze tube.
The packaging for this Book of Shadows is the best so far. I love that the pop up NYC scene is lit up. Even my hubby thought it was cool.
I was disappointed by the increase in price from the last volume. I think the last one was $48 and this one is $54. I guess the difference is for the lighting in the pop up scene.

Okay, on to the palette review.
In a word, AMAZING, as is all of urban decays eye shadows. Great combos, you can make a million looks with this palette from subtle to outrageous. Shadows are richly pigmented, very blend-able, I cant say enough good things about urban decays quality. It comes with two 24/7 pencils in zero and ransom (black and a violet blueish color) and a sample of their primer potion. Sometimes the primer potion makes blending shadows harder, just dust a light matte shadow, the color of your own skin tone over the whole eye area after you apply primer, blending will be a breeze.
If the price of this palette is a little out of your reach consider Urban decays Eyeshadow Ammo Shadow Box. It has 10 shadows and I think rivals the book of shadows in the selection of colors, no pencils/potion though. Oh and its only 38 dollars.
I love this palette, I have ALLOT of different palettes and shadows but I find that I reach for this all the time. You are sure to enjoy it!

Urban Decay is extremely famous for coming up with new book of shadows each year. I have all 3 from previous collections and I feel that I keep on purchasing each new book, for the sake of completing my collection. Quite ridiculous of me. The marketing has definitely got the worst consumer out of me.
Anyways, if this is going to be your first book of shadows, then this is going to be worth every dollar you spend on it, as long as it doesn't exceed $60. It's a fantastic deal for $54, you get 16 near full sized shadows, 2 small liners and a shadow base (primer potion). It has funky blues and greens, but at the same time beautiful neutrals. It's a pallet for everyone, the bold club nights, and those every day neutrals. It's a great investment and a stunning gift. But is it really worth $80-$100+? I think not. You could probably wait till next year for a new book of shadows which will probably have similar eyeshadow shades and at least 4+, identical shades to previous book of shadows.
Next year, I refuse to purchase the next book of shadows, unless Urban Decay have a significantly different shadow color selection. Oh yea, the packaging is pretty cool. But not as cool as the Limited Edition, Alice in Wonderland pallet.
